What is an ‘NZ New’ used car?

You’ll find most of our used cars are ‘NZ New’. This means they started their life brand new in New Zealand. Why is that important? Two reasons. Firstly it’s easier to track the history of an NZ new used car, as the past service records are often written in the service book, or can be found online.

Secondly used cars from other countries may have been subjected to conditions not found in New Zealand. Many countries use salt on their roads to help remove snow. Road salt affects the car’s paint causing corrosion.

Why buy from a Used Car Dealer?

Used car dealers must comply with the Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA), which guarantees prompt positive outcomes if you get the vehicle home and find something wrong, or the car is not as described.

Dealers must also comply with the Fair Trading Act (FTA). Again, this means that you have laws helping you promptly right any wrongs if the used car dealer has misled you in their online advertising or when you’re in the car yard.

Used Car Dealers must also be registered and comply with the Motor Vehicle Sales Act (MVSA) and display an accurate Consumer Information Notice (CIN) on used vehicles, including fuel and safety information.
